Lash Babe of October

October brings another Lash Babe of the Month. This month I wanted to focus on featuring someone who I call my Lash BFF. This woman pushes me on my bad days, answers my late night and early morning phone calls, helps me when I need a little help with my other lash responsibilities and is always there for me just like any of my close friends would be. So let’s meet the Lash Babe of October!

So let’s meet the Lash Babe of October!

Name: Jacqueline Collins

Location: Westlake Village, California

Salon: The Lash Room

Social Media: @lovethelashroom

Awards & Roles: NovaLash Certified Classic, American Volume and London Volume Lash Artist. 2019 LASHOff Semi-Finalist. Owner of The Lash Room.

Tell me about your lash journey, so far…

My lash journey started around 2005. I was awkwardly staring at a ladies lashes. I finally let her know how amazing and long her lashes looked. She told me they were eyelash extensions. From that moment on I was obsessed. In 2006 I snuck into a hair show and was handed a flyer about lash training. I turned to my girlfriend and said, “I could totally do this! And then we could work together!” I called the company that week and learned I needed to have my esthetician or cosmetology license. By the following month, I was calling esthetician schools. I was licensed and lash certified by summer of 2007. In 2010, I started working for a lash studio that required I convert to NovaLash. Although my time at that salon didn’t last long, my love for NovaLash stayed strong and I have continued to work with the brand since.

Why is NovaLash your exclusive brand?

Because it’s the best with products and support after training. I have tried many other brands thoughout my years. Mainly because I was searching for a product my girlfriend (who is extremely sensitive around her eye area) wasn’t allergic to. Each time I tried a new adhesive I quickly tossed it and went back to my NovaLash Sensitive Eyes because it was the only adhesive she wouldn’t react to. NovaLash has just launched their Royal Platinum Bond adhesive this summer and I can happily say I can use this adhesive on her without any reactions! And it truly has the best retention.

What other professional roles do you have outside of lashing your guests?

I am the owner of NV Beauty Lounge working with a team of amazing women. We offer services with nails, waxing, spray tans, facials, and lashes.

What are your goals?

My goals are to expand my salon and lash business with my passion of educating other lash professionals. I love to help new artists develop their skill and build a career for themselves. I also enjoy the social media side of the beauty industry and expanding my networking across not only California, but the world!

Favorite memory in your career?

Being invited to LASHOff in 2018 and meeting Sophy Merszei for the first time. I got to tell her personally how much her products and lash training has changed my life. Becoming a NovaLash Lash Stylist has transformed my dreams into a reality!

From meeting this angel at LASHOff 2019 to rooming in Las Vegas for the IBS show to visiting her for her birthday… Jacqueline has taught me about being a Lash Artist, business owner and a real friend.

Show some love for Jacqueline in the comments and make sure to follow her on Instagram!

Is The Light Worth the Hype?

To be short… yes, yes it is!

NovaLash’s The Light was launched earlier this year and I have been in love with mine since the day it arrived! Now I already had a different brand of lighting that was similar to The Light, but with the amount of lashing I do my eyes would get tired from straining. It just wasn’t bright enough for me.

When I found out The Light had brighter lighting (192 lights to be specific) I went the the NovaLash website and ordered mine. It was actually cheaper ($275 for non-NovaLash account customers) than my previous light and arrived within a few days. I immediately had to test it against my other light at the highest setting.

The Light has 5 settings of lighting WITH a remote! Now some people may not see why that is so beneficial… but being a Lash Stylist, blogger, blogger, content creator, event hair and makeup stylist having a remote makes my life easier. I can be taking photos or doing makeup and not have to move to change the lighting as needed.

The other benefits of The Light are: the base is sturdy, you can adjust the height of it and the arms are adjustable. So when you are lashing you can adjust the arms to make sure you lash every single baby lash on the client’s eye.

The Light has become my best friend when it comes to a majority of my work. Even my friends who are professionals in the beauty industry comment on how nice and bright it gets compared to what they use. My lash game has benefited (along with the other areas of work previously mentioned). It was worth every penny and I would suggest anyone who is determined to lash every lash on their client to make sure they have this in their lash room!

Have you tried The Light yet? Let me know what you think in the comments or ask any questions you may have about lash lighting! Make sure to share this post with all of you lash friends!

Diet & Lashes

Around seasonal allergy time, ESPECIALLY the fall round, clients may go for an infill appointment and it may be different. The client gets home and hours later realizes their eyes are ITCHY and may swell. After about 72 hours the client notices it has gone away… so what could it be? Contact dermatitis may be the client’s internet diagnosis from symptoms, but it could also be allergies.

When it’s allergy season your clients will notice they are slightly sensitive to things they are usually fine with. Those who have itchy eyes and some swelling affected post infill appointment are probably not thinking all the little details that may be affecting those allergies. Don’t worry, it’s why I am here!

First, always contact your doctor, as I am no MD. Secondly, you may need to change you to Sensitive Eyes adhesive for a little bit. And that’s okay. Client’s will just need to come in sooner, as it is not as strong as the other award winning Platinum Bond adhesives. The third thing to suggest to clients, is to pay attention to what they may be ingesting 24 hours pre and post appointment. This may be a HUGE help to get you back on your Platinum Bond addiction during allergy season!

Foods contain histamines which may be playing a part in making people more sensitive and likely to have the itchy, swollen eyes. That’s why your told to take Benadryl for allergies, it has ANTI-histamines.  What foods/drinks are high in histamines & histamine liberators? I made you a list with some help from Histamine Intolerance Awareness:

  • Alcohol, especially RED WINE
  • Energy drinks
  • Green & black tea
  • Nuts – walnuts, cashew nuts
  • Chocolates and other cocoa based products
  • Vinegar
  • Salty snacks, sweets with preservatives and artificial colorings
  • Most citric fruits – kiwi, lemon, lime, pineapple, plums…
  • Pickled or canned foods – sauerkrauts
  • Tomatoes
  • Matured cheeses
  • Smoked meat products – salami, ham, sausages….
  • Shellfish
  • Beans and pulses – chickpeas, soy beans, peanuts
  • Ready meals
  • Papaya
  • Wheat germ
  • Additives – benzoate, sulphites, nitrites, glutamate, food dyes

Ask clients what they may have ate or drank 24 hours pre and post appointment last infill. Did they seem to have a lot of these & get itchy, swollen eyes? Now I am not saying cut out all of these, because I could NEVER do it. But trying to limit the amount of histamine food/drink you have can help to avoid the itchy swelling. I have told clients to avoid just red wine and vinegar based food/drinks and they noticed a big difference. They couldn’t just remove their lashes after all this time! They plan some days around getting in for infills for goodness sake!

Knowing about histamines with allergies when you are applying lash extensions is important. So before next appointment pull up this post and remind clients what they want to avoid for a 48 hour period and help their eyes keep the Platinum Bond and avoid the itchy swells so they can live their best lash life!
