Say Hello to my Little Friend, Vitamin Therapy

During the beginning of December I caught the horrible flu going around. I took medicine and fought it off. Or so I thought… a week later I thought I was good EXCEPT I could not shake the fatigue. I would get plenty of sleep but my energy levels did not bounce back. Even my best friend Frappe couldn’t get me going. I was desperate but wasn’t sure which avenue to travel. I, then stumbled on a Facebook post from RevivalRN.

RevivalRN is inside of Brighton Sola Salon Studios. I had heard through the grapevine through other studio owners about this “Vitamin IV” aka “the hangover IV people get in Vegas”. So I started thinking to myself, “maybe I am low on something? I usually am not this exhausted all the time”. I sent a message to set up an appointment.

While I waited I started to research. I looked up a few articles stating the benefits and then went to RevivalRN’s website. This is the Vitamin IV Therapy description on their website:

“Most people don’t consume the proper daily dose of vitamins and minerals and, as a result, are low on energy, suffer from frequent headaches, have difficulty concentrating, and have a low functioning immune system that makes them more susceptible to seasonal allergies, colds and flu. Nutrient IV Therapy is a safe and effective way to receive natural vitamins, minerals, and amino acids direct to the bloodstream. A 30 to 45-minute session enhances your energy, improves overall mood, and helps prevent future health conditions caused by stress, malnutrition, and dehydration.

Here are some of the reported benefits of IV Vitamin Therapy:

  • Increases metabolism to help burn fat
  • Eliminates toxins from your system to look and feel younger
  • Improves overall mood to be more productive during your workday
  • Keeps your immune system strong and healthy
  • Reduces the visible signs of aging
  • Rehydrates skin after sun exposure to avoid wrinkles
  • Improves your body’s ability to withstand stress and intense levels of work or travel”

Then a light bulb went off. For the previous 2-3 weeks I had been talking to an esthetician about how dry and sensitive my skin was feeling and was trying every product I could get my hands on for moisture. She told me I was dehydrated and needed to drink water. I tried to drink over 64 ounces a day which is probably 4 times my normal intake, hold on the judging I know I am terrible at it. When I got to the last bullet above it hit me. It’s also the busiest time of year for salons, I have been working double the amount I usually do. Let’s face it I don’t take vitamins daily either. So I was convinced this is something I need. Just one thing, I hate needles! Not only do I hate them, even my daughter tells the doctors how I don’t like them so not even to ask to bring one around me.

After talking myself into being a big girl and making my appointment I found myself walking into RevivalRN’s studio.

It was time…. The room was welcoming and clean. I was given a consent form to fill out to make sure I was a good candidate for it. We went over the forms and I was able to ask any questions. Which, if you know me, I ask the weirdest questions because I like to make sure I know what’s happening and so I can explain it to others. I did not have any fear about cleanliness either which we all know I am very picky with sanitation. I was ready…

The nurse looked at both arms to see which vein was the best to use. We have all heard the scary “fishing for a vein” stories… My arm was prepped and she slowly wrapped the rubber and explained she wanted the vein to bulge out(she used medical terms, I do not)  so wasn’t rushing to stick a needle in my arm. This helped make me relax knowing she was experienced but also that it wasn’t a hurry up and get done service.

I closed my eyes, because I am a baby, and within a minute, she was all done setting up. It wasn’t the worst pain ever and I was dying like I thought. She started to explain what the IV had in it and that she would also inject glutathione, an antioxidant, additionally with the vitamins.

Now to how it felt. I mentioned being cold which she already had a blanket ready for me. She explained the IV is room temperature which is lower than normal body temperature so it was normal to be cold. The other thing I noticed. I CRAVED water. I didn’t just want a sip, I drank 3 water bottles in less than 30 minutes! And this feeling continued for the rest of the day. I only wanted water, not juice or soda, just good old H20. This pointed me to realize I definitely was dehydrated.

I asked when I would feel anything. The nurse told me it could be that night or the next day it all depends on how low levels are with vitamins because your body only absorbs what it needs and discards the rest in your body’s natural way so I may notice a stronger color and odor with urine. I know TMI, but it’s part of the whole body and vitamin relationship. By the time we got to this point in the discussion it was already over.

ivempty She removed the IV and cleaned the area and told me if I had any questions to text or call. I still felt quite chilly and she said that was normal and would wear off. I went back to my room trying to warm up. I also drank another water bottle. My client after the procedure said I looked chilly and we started the service. I told her about what I did and the benefits I expected, which was just not to be exhausted 24/7. By the end of the service she pointed out that my skin looked brighter and better. After looking in the mirror I even noticed a nice glow like I applied self tanner. I knew something was happening.

I went on with my Saturday as normal. I woke up on Sunday and when I heard my alarm my eyes opened and didn’t want to immediately shut. Now to be honest, I didn’t leap out of bed doing back flips. Not that it was promised but some people read the description of the Vitamin IV Therapy and think that is what happened. I felt back to normal and my skin feels 100 times better than it was. So it was a win for me. The best part is it did not just last one day it stayed. What I think happened was I was SUPER low on many levels as well as dehydrated and my body and reset itself with the help of that amazing IV.

So the big question at this point for those of you reading: Would I do it again? YES! Just my skin alone convinced me. When you go from your daily products burning your skin with irritation to being able to use minimal products and feeling smooth again it is life changing. And I crave water, I feel like it helped kicked that addictive caffeine feeling I was having. And I would recommend it to anyone feeling drained or hungover like it is advertised in Vegas.
